Not a good decision if they are trying to build a business in Asia/China where 8 is seen as a very lucky number.....

Did Ford take ownership before or after? My friend worked at their HQ and said it was an awful bureaucracy of layer after layer. Probably why they are doing so bad.

Ford purchased Aston Martin in 1987.

Reason for skipping DB8 was that Aston Martin thought that people would believe the '8' signified that the car had a V8 engine, which it clearly wouldn't as the DB9 has a uprated V12 engine. Also, the new AMV8 which resurrected the V8 range of cars (last was the Virage) is due to come out in October - going to the launch tomorrow!

Hope that gives an answer to the question.

Can you also imagine the countless newspaper and magazine headlines... DB8... ie Debate... Best Aston Ever? DB8-able.

Yes, but the value of "8" in Asia would make it worth it.

That is a good point, but at the time the 8 would have come out how many would they have been able to actually sell given the high taxes in some of the South East Asian markets.
