The gearbox seems to have been damaged 2 to 3 days ago. The car stuck itself purposefully in 4th gear- this is a function that allows you to drive the car to the repair shop. So far I believe you should do just that, I think there could be a lot of possibilities of what went wrong. |

I booked for 21th Nov in the dealer to check the car + service.
I'm driving the car using the pedal shift 1,2,3 and no acceleration on changing to 4 and there no fault. if I change to 5th the gear will stuck. I will try to update what i got.. p.s. there some garage called "Dexol" said: there other 2002 aston 5speed gearbox got the same fault and they change some parts of the gearbox (the dealer asked to change the hole gearbox). |

Up-date:
I contact with "HWM Aston Martin, New Zealand Avenue, Walton on Thames, KT12 1AT" and I got this: "The gearboxes are available as reconditioned units. The retail is £9,392.00, we can give you 20% off this price. If you can return your old gearbox and it is not damaged beyond repair, then AML will refund you 50% of £9,392.00, meaning that with discount you will pay £3756.80. I hope this makes sense, please let me know if you would like a shipping quote or if you have any further questions" there collaborators not the stupid dealer in Dubai. I will wait for the gearbox report and then decide what to do. |

that was a 2003 actually.. and it's right outside my place getting some work done ![]() p.s: when your engine is cool, check the coolant and see if it's mixing with transmission fluid might be a long shot, but it's worth a look |

The dealer should be able to tell you if there were any significant changes between the model years. I would tend to doubt it.

Stick the manual--these slush boxes can only be trouble for those buying after the traditional warranty. |

10-20 years from now the slush boxes are going to be a complete maintenance nightmare. Technology will have moved on and finding parts and a mechanic who can repair them will be very difficult. Definitely stick to the manuals. Very much have the same problem with the early Ferrari F1 boxes.

The Ferrari/Maserati Division did have problems with their flappy paddle boxes (I believe when the 360/550-575 was around, as well as the 4200 coupes), it really took them a lot of time and effort to sort them out to the level at which they are today, and I doubt that Aston would spend the same time and effort to modify the T-Tronic. With that said, I have yet to witness a recall of the manual versions of the DB9. The manual Astons were always the special ones to me, however different lifestyles require different boxes. Not everyone's driveway opens up to a twisty B-road. I never really understood why so much people in the early 00's ordered their DB7 V12 in Volante spec and with the 5 speed T-Tronic... never liked the nature of that car... however, looking though the classifieds most DB7 V12s in the US are of that specification. Anyhow, Altawashm, sorry for not replying for a long time, Could be old news^^, but all the 04-09 Touchtronic boxes are identical and there were no major revisions from 2007 to 2008. The 09' box (probably the most commonly available as of right now) did get some minor changes, so that might or might not have required a computer remap along with a gearbox change...(but I doubt the changes were significant), and the 09 unit can definitely handle the power/torque coming out of the 07 version of the engine. BUT if you found a 08 scrap DB9 with a box I'd say go for it... but on the other hand the local dealer couldn't find a problem...I wonder how they tested/inspected it... taking a look at the Gearbox yourself and dealing with dealers in first-person is probably the best alternative choice you have right now to getting the DB9 Last edited by Serega91; 12-14-2010 at 04:20 PM. |

Up-Date (after watching Al Ahli vs AC Milan in Dubai):
The Gear Box price: Local Dealer (Dubai): 132,000.00 AED = 22,998.48 GBP hwmastonmartin.co.uk: 4,600.00 GBP = 26,377.30 AED (plus shipping price + they want the old Gear Box) * I found a new Garage called "Fiorano Service Center": 7,870.00 GBP = 45,097.40 AED (include the install ....) *All the price above for a new Gear Box. so I choose "hwmastonmartin.co.uk" but they havent reply for 5 days!! I will wait then the "Fiorano" will be my choice. |

Quick post: I doubt this will change the situation much (and not sure if you have or have not seen), but we have an 06 Volante parting out on this forum.... http://www.astonmartinlife.com/forum...006-t1078.html Otherwise the 7,890 is close to factory price, iit is a good 2nd choice. |

I just had my Gearbox oil replaced & new lines put in and my cost for the oil was $400USD. Crazy.
FYI, I also had the lines re-done as these (as you know) are notorious for leaking & cracking. Instead of replacing with new Aston hoses, I had a "hose specialist" manufacture these custom and the story is that they will be much more resilient. Mohammad, we're all pulling for you. Thanks for keeping us updated. |

So what did i ask the garage to-do: 1- change the clach 2- there was a broken shaft (change it) 3- change the gear oil (there was a lot of grain in it) 4- change the gear box down filter/vessel and its work!! that better than change the hole gearbox which cost lot.. (i will try to post some parts photos) |
