My First Aston (DB9 Volante)

Hi everyone,

I'm currently looking to purchase a 2006 DB9 Volante with 17,000 miles. It is at a local Jag dealership, fully inspected, etc.

Yesterday, I scheduled an appointment to drive the Aston, and I was blown away! It was my first time driving one. I've driven a little bit of everything over the years, so I didn't expect to like it as much as I did.

Ultimately, I have a few questions before the deal is sealed:

- Reliability: I've heard mixed reviews. Mostly electrical problems.
- Major service intervals, when are they?
- Problems with the convertible top? Seems like a crux compared to other cars.

Thanks for helping! It was hard to find much, because of the rarity.

I am just about to buy an 06 DB9 volante.
Would be interested to know your experience so far?

I own a DB7 now and have been looking for quite some time to upgrade to a 9. The book "A Definitive Guide To Gaydon Era Aston Martin" has been an immense help. Available thru Amazon for too much money, it will enlighten you on what you need to know.
New Volante

I have owned mine (06') for about 6 months now. I think most of the issues are not widespread. One of the first things I did was upgrade to a high quality dry cell battery. I was really amazed that a car of this caliber had battery drainage issues. Mercedes solved this by having 2 separate batteries. I have not had to charge it once since the replacement and I leave it sitting for 3 weeks or more at a time. so here are a new owners thoughts.

The Good:
-probably one of the best handling cars I have ever driven.
- Accerleration is a beast!
- Seat comfort

The Could be better:
-At 6'2", I just barely fit.
- Lack of storage.
- Small trunk. I would get rid of the useless back seats and add space.
- Sub-Woofer enclosure is junk. I had a custom one built. I found the 950w stereo is great afterwards.
-No stereo controls on steering wheel.
- Cup holders
- Navigation is lacking. I use my phone and Google Maps with most any vehicle.
- Voice control fro all functions would be nice.
- Lastly, the car is one big blind spot. I installed a rear-view mirror with front and rear cameras to accommodate

I feel that most of the issues are minor, but dumbfounded on why Aston left out so much on a car that should shine above all. I would expect to see more technology than that found on a $15k Ford. I am still happy with my purchase. I wish you luck.

I recently bought the 05 DB9 coupe. even though im from california where the sun never goes down, and i love convertibles, i'd never go for the volante. This may be a personal preference, but don't you think the soft top screws up the design? You have this beautiful body with a slick design which catches all eyes around you, but then with the volante half of it is replaced by a very generic looking soft top (what a shame!).
Google image the coupe and volante look at the pics side by side. The few people I've talked about it share the same opinion, so i thought ill give you something to think about :) But again this may be just personal preference.
