I currently own a 1999 Ferrari Modena F1 that I have enjoyed for almost two years. I had a 1997 Jaguar XK8 Coupe before that which I kept for 14 years. I think it's time to move on to an Aston Martin Vantage V8 -- probably a 2007. The last manual transmission I drove was a 2006 MINI Cooper S John Cooper Works and the six speed on that was silky smooth.
I would have liked to get an automatic but it seems as if six speeds are more plentiful. What is everyones opinion on the Vantage's six speed transmission. Will it be as smooth as the MINI's? Also the upkeep on the Ferrari is very expensive -- mine is due to go in next week to have the cam belts changed ("needed" every three years or 36,000 miles -- which no one drives that much in 3 years) together with changing some leaking cam seals the bill will be north of $4k and I only have 29K miles on it.
What is the reliability of the Vantage? Are maintenance costs more in line with the XK8 I owned? Are low mileage cars (less than 10K any better or worse than higher mileage (up to 30K)ones?
Any other comments or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Alan
