My newly acquired 7 has just started misfiring, and I'm quite sure it is either a plug or coil. Is the job as daunting as it first appears? I've serviced my own Ferraris and Porsches so I was expecting the job to be no more complex or difficult..Am I wrong? Any advice from one who's replaced plugs before will be greatly appreciated.. Thanks in advance.

For the V12, it is a slightly involved process. You need to remove the inlet manifolds and fuel injection rails from the injectors.

Release the inlet ducts from the throttle bodies, release throttle cables, remove vacuum pipes where needed, disconnect the EGR pipe and any electrical connectors.

De-pressurise the fuel rails (press valve at front), release fuel rails and pull off injectors, rails can be left connected to fuel lines.

Unfasten bolt holding manifolds to engine and then remove. Unscrew top plates and then remove coils to access plugs.

About 10 hours work involved for a first time and you'd be advised to replace the coils at this time to save having to do it all again in the near future.

Thanks for that Squid. While 'in there' I also replaced the coils..(used Ford F150 pieces ($92.00 each, and off the shelf NGK plugs at $9.00 each). Your 10 hour estimate was right on. I'm thinking I can do it next time in about 8.

Yes I think the hours will come down each time it is done. Speed will be saved I think in removing fuel components and the EGR and throttle linkage / associated items.

So you say the Coils for the V12 are the same fitted to the Ford F150? do you have a part number?

Most of the Aston V12's use Ford items even the pistons. With a few Jaguar, Land Rover and Mazda parts thrown in.

No different to any other high end car to be honest, such as Lamborghini using Audi parts and Zonda etc using Merc parts.

Sorry Hak, I don't. Just take a sample to a local parts supplier and match the coil body against what they have, like I did. Good luck.
